About IV Sedation

MINT dentistry wants to make sure you feel completely relaxed and comfortable during your visits. MINT dentistry in Shenandoah, TX is pleased to offer intravenous (IV) sedation for patients getting oral surgery. IV sedation is is typically only used during longer or more invasive procedures, such as wisdom tooth extractions and the placement of dental implants. This sedation dentistry method uses anti-anxiety medication, delivered directly into your vein. The medication, administered by a board-certified dentist, can help keep you calm and relaxed during oral surgery. While you will remain awake during the procedure, the relaxation may make you feel like you were sleeping. The levels of medication administered will be closely watched all throughout your treatment to ensure you are comfortable as well as safe. If you need IV sedation for oral surgery, we will discuss the process during your treatment planning session.

Best Candidates

Intravenous (IV) sedation is reserved for patients getting oral surgery. To make sure you can safely receive IV sedation, your dentist will review your current medication, health conditions, and medical history. Your dentist will also explain other sedation techniques we offer before deciding on your best treatment plan. MINT dentistry is committed to helping you achieve the sexy teeth you desire while making sure you feel comfortable and safe.

What to Expect

To begin your visit, we will invite you to relax in a massaging treatment chair in one of our well-equipped procedure rooms. Our team will provide you with a pair of stylish MINT dentistry sunglasses and Beats headphones. Once you're ready, we will insert a small needle in your arm and the anti-anxiety medicine will be administered. You will begin to feel relaxed quickly. When the sedation is in full effect, your team will start to perform your oral surgery. Once the procedure is finished, the IV will be removed and you should begin to wake up.

Treatment Aftercare

You should not drive for at least 24 hours following IV sedation. You should plan to have a responsible adult take you home. We suggest that for the rest of the day you rest and drink lots of water, as most patients feel sleepy the remainder of the day. In some cases, you could become nauseous or experience memory loss. Do not be alarmed – these side effects are normal and typically fade in a day or two. Adverse reactions after IV sedation are rare, but if your side effects feel unusual or don't go away, you should contact our office right away.

The MINT Commitment

Depending on many factors, IV sedation may be partially covered if you have dental insurance. Before your appointment, we will contact your insurance provider to confirm the benefits of your policy. MINT dentistry also provides financial planning and payment options. MINT dentistry believes that all of your appointments at our office to improve your smile should be a positive experience. If you cannot afford sedation, ask a member of our team about the MINT Discount Plan and other ways we can help make your care easier to afford.
