This nonsurgical procedure is performed by a board-certified MINT dentist to treat gum disease by removing built-up plaque and tartar from under the gumline. This specialized procedure begins with cleaning out the gum pockets, then the teeth are smoothed or planed to minimize new buildup. If you notice symptoms of gum disease, contact us to make an appointment at our state-of-the-art office in Shenandoah, TX. "I've been coming here for a couple years. I will NOT go anywhere else. The staff here are all so friendly, inviting, and always accommodating to your needs. On top of having great interpersonal skills, the doctor, hygienists, assistants, all have amazing work ethics and preform expertly while also taking into consideration and holding at high priority, your comfort level. And above all, they genuinely care. As for the facility itself, it's not your typical dentist office. You dont feel so much that you're sitting in a bland, emotionless doctor's office. The lobby accommodates with free tablets to use, magazines, comfortable furniture, free sunglasses to protect from the lights/splashing water, they even offer free bottled water. The 'office' where you're seated for your procedure is always clean and inviting. They provide you with headphones to listen to music and watch movies (headphones not required) and will even put on youtube if you'd rather. I definitely recommend MINT to anyone, especially those who may fear going to the dentist. MINT is definitely 100% a whole new experience that is far better than any I've had in the past."- J.H. / Google / Mar 04, 2021
"Mint is incredible! From the moment you walk in, you are warmly welcomed. They offered us water and lead us through the check in process. My 6yo and I had appointments one after the other. The entire staff was so kind, patient, and encouraging to him. They put on a movie for him while they did his dental work. He has sensory processing issues and were very flexible to find ways to help him through the process. The chairs also give a massage so that helped him feel comfortable. I was also satisfied by the overall experience. The only reason I took off one star was for the timing of our appointments. I have a feeling it was just a busy evening for the office, but we were there from 245-6 pm. And all we had done were xrays, pictures, deep cleaning and I got my permanent retainers out... which took maybe 15 minutes. I will definitely be returning! I’m super thankful for Jasmine, Alana and Olivia who all helped us as well as the lovely ladies at the front desk. The doctor was very good at explaining everything in detail and reassuring us that all will be well. Overall an incredible experience! Also, my husband had two fillings when they went with our daughter and he said it was the most pleasant filling experience he had ever had."- K.R. / Google / Mar 02, 2021
"The people that work here are just simply put great. Highly recommend this place to any one looking for a dentist."- O.S. / Google / Feb 05, 2021
During your dental exam, your dentist will look at the depth of your gum pockets. If the sulcus (gum pockets) are too deep, we will recommend a scaling and root planing treatment. Scaling and root planing (SRP) helps to reduce the size of your gum pockets to eliminate buildup under the gumline, which is the main cause of the first stage of gum disease (gingivitis). The first signs of gum disease are chronic bad breath, loose teeth, as well as gums that are swollen, tender, bleed, look red, and are pulling away from the teeth. When gum disease is diagnosed in the earliest stage, one or more SRP treatment can reverse symptoms; however, if gum disease has progressed to later stages (periodontitis or advanced periodontitis), you may require a different procedure.
What to Expect
A deep cleaning with scaling and root planing can be performed in our office with your gums numbed using local anesthesia. Your dentist can also review stronger sedation techniques to help you with stress or anxiety. At the start of your appointment, we'll ask you to sit back and relax in a massaging chair. You'll choose music to listen to through our Beats headphones, then you will be given a pair of our stylish MINT sunglasses to help you feel at ease. Next, we will administer your anesthesia to keep you comfortable and relaxed during your procedure. When you are ready, one of our board-certified dentists will use a scaling instrument to clean out all the build up under your gumline. We will then plane (smooth) the exterior of your teeth so there are less crevices where plaque, tartar, and bacteria get trapped.
Immediately following your treatment, you should expect extra sensitivity, as well as temporary numbness from the local anesthetic. Your dentist may prescribe antibiotics to eliminate any remaining bacteria in your gums. You should follow a good oral care routine at home, including daily flossing and brushing, to keep your mouth healthy and bright. You should continue to schedule appointments twice a year for cleanings and an exam, so your dentist can check your oral health. Depending on the results of your treatment, we might recommend a second procedure to fully repair your gums.
